Iquitos - The Jungle Town

We flew in through cloud and mist. Iquitos is an isolated Jungle Town of 300,000 people, with no roads in or out. In the 19th century, it was a rich, booming town, feeding off the rubber boom as the trees gave up their sap. Today, it is dominated by three-wheel motorbike Tuk-Tuks, which scream around town. One tried to run Mel over, but broke its wheel on her calf! The market we visited was a real eye-opener. Selling everything from the days catch, to jungle medicinal concoctions, to guinea-pig (a popular dish here), to splayed chickens with the egg still in situ!
