The Inca Trail (behind the scenes)

This was my piece of magic that I looked forward to, since the first time I heard about the Incas, so much bigger my disappointment when what I can only describe as a wake-up call for this government. It was soon clear after 10 min into our hike that this was a highway of humans, and their debris, looking down the road WELL traveled was filled with wrappers, plastic bottles and more. I kept on asking myself where is the serenity?? People standing in queues to get to the toilet, which was so filthy, that you couldn’t even stand on the floor!!
But positive I was going to stay, and the second day, brought an entirely new challenge, how to cope with porters using the already filthy female toilet and pissing on the floor!!
The third day was the repeat of the first 2, at least we were getting pleasantly tired, and the focus was mainly on sore muscles. Our group decided to avoid any structure that remotely looked like a toilet, bush from now on!
The evening of the third day was another blow in my Inca dream??
Our campsite (one of 15) was about 800m from the local hall, pub and toilet facilities, o yes plus one shower between 235 females, and an hour later the place was trash, the youngsters started with downers (plenty of booze available) and it was kind of cool to have a vomit attack and to miss the toilet, and these were girls between 20 and 30 years old!! The fact that all of us had to get up at 4 the next morning was NO PROBLEM!!!
Then finally we get to one of the 7 wonders of the world, waiting your turn to take a photograph of this magnificent scenery without humans flogging around could take up to half an hour! Then down towards the kingdom we had to fight our way through 14 buses, 6 school groups just to come to the realization that we have just come to another tourist-moneymaking-don’t-care, spot on this planet.
They say the bad memories doesn’t last for long and we did have a great experience……
