Finally, it is close. We get up at 4 am to get to the Inca Sungate between the mountains at sunrise. 6 kms hike and there we are! we have done it! It is awe-inspiring. The view of Machu Pichu gets better as we get closer. Only discovered in 1911, Machu Pichu escaped the Spanish plunder and destruction. High up on top of the mountains, this city controlled much of the Inca empire. Exhausted, we took in the moment resting on our backs for an hour or two..... Apart from the young soldier that is; Keean climbed to the top of Machu Pichu mountain with Susan, our Austrian friend.
