The Antarctic Trip - 3

Finally arriving at the Antarctic Peninsula, we were struck by its awesome beauty. Vast icebergs of all shapes and colors, sheer white cliffs, blue, blue sea. It all looks so clean. But that was before we landed next to a penguin rookery!
Today was going to be our first shore landing at Brown Bluff in the Weddell Sea, but after getting all togged up, we found ourselves being beaten back by the conditions. The wind came up and the swell swamped the Zodiac the expedition staff were using to test the landing. The sun is shining (a rare event in the Antarctic, apparently, although we had sunshine almost every day) and the views were stupendous. The sea ice in the Weddell Sea did not block our progress. We had a very determined and experienced Russian captain. We started to spot our first Glaciers. Incredible!
