The Antarctic Trip - 4

Then as we ventured further into the south, the waters became calm and our excursions started. 10 in a zodiac and off to the continent we go. The penguins had us in awe…their behavior was hilarious, and to see them stealing their neighbors little pebbles for house building gave a very SA feel to it all.
There were also enough seals to keep us going. Some were in the process of malting. In the South Shetland Islands, the penguins were just starting to hatch! We would spend about 3 hours on land, and it was bitterly cold most of the time, although we manage to walk a lot. Then all back to the boat for lunch, the meals were too good, and you were somehow gently forced to do those trips (some exercise).
After lunch until 4 was our time, and later we would visit another part of the continent, and see some different colonies of penguins,. These guys were so trusting, and such fun to photograph! Our evenings were filled with wildlife and past explorer stories, together with reviewing the daily activities. Dinner was always great and early nights. Some of the morning activities would start at 6h00. Beautiful to see the start of the day so far down towards the South Pole. It never got dark at night! We also went passed the MV Ushuaia, picked up the teamleader for a cup of tea, (the boat was stranded on a hidden rock) and wondered if any-one at home would miss us…..
